WHAT IS NANOTECHNOLOGY Now a days, the word ‘nano’ is being heard a lot around the world. And Nanotechnology is now being used by manufactures all around the world, but most of the people don’t actually know about the Nanotechnology. Everyone is aware of the word Nanotechnology about they don’t know the real meaning of it. Well, nanotechnology can be said as ‘science of small’. You can get the vivid idea of term ‘science of small’ by this one clarification that 80,000 thousand nano-meters would be equal to the mere width of human hair. Now this is something really small. Now the benefits of this Nanotechnology reaches to a wider range as you are able to maneuver at atomic level. Just think for a second you reaching upto atomic level, just think of the possibilities. This mean you can rearrange the atoms of any element and can convert into something useful and expensive, speaking of useful, with the Nanotechnology you can convert water into combustible fuel, for water consists of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. Hydrogen itself is combustible whereas oxygen is necessary for ignition. So there are possibilities of using water as fuel. On the other side, by rearranging the atoms of coal, there are possibilities of converting it into precious stone like diamond, so there is no limit to possibilities. When it comes to the field of medical, the possibilities of Nanotechnology are endless. Just as we have artificial fuels these days, in near future we will be having red blood cells and leucosytes (white blood cells) imitations and even the replacements of contaminated organs. Consider nano-genes, in this way we would be able to use new nano-gene as substitute of diseased ones. And there are chances that we would be able to reverse the effect of cells that cause aging, which would increase our life span. That would be great. Methuselah Foundation provides platform to perform experiments and conduct research on the cells that cause aging, they also present with award prizes for conducting research. As far as practical experiments are concerned, transgenic mice have been given birth which hold more than normal antioxidant enzyme which are also called in medical term as ‘catalase’. These mice possessing more than usual catalase helps in increasing the life span as they hinder the cell damage of aging. These transgenic mice have an extended life of about 20% more than usual. Consider adding 15-20 years to your life! Well those were the aging issues, now if muster up the cures and antibiotics that could be developed under nanotechnology or nanogenetics. Now scientists at NEC are putting their efforts to develop ‘bio-nano’ chips. This bio-nano chip is said to sift the blood completely in less than a minute. So a bright future lies ahead for nanotechnology as it is as I said before a ‘science of small’ as has whole lot of potential in it. It will not only contribute in only particular field but it will contribute in almost all the fields whether it medical or fossil fuel as many other platforms. |
